Back to Basics is a para-ministry, non profit organization which was founded to deal with the many problems that exist in our society today. Back to Basics is a member of the Dunamis Covenant Fellowship of Churches, with two locations in Buffalo, New York and Deltona, Florida.

 

Mission Statement of Back to Basics:

"To develop and implement programs and strategies that would improve the

quality of the life for members of any community that are experiencing

problems associated with substance abuse, homelessness, unemployment,

gang related activities and transitional living."

Ministries Provided by Back to Basics (BTB):

 

Supportive Housing - BTB provides shelter and supportive housing for those who might be in transition, due to substance abuse, incarceration, or rehabilitation. 

 

Court Advocacy - BTB serves as a court advocate for those who have been charged with a crime. BTB provides a supervised environments as an alternative sentence to incarceration. The life skills component teaches men and women to make responsible decisions in the face of challenges.

 

Family Assistance Program - BTB provides group counseling with family members who are experiencing difficulty with family members that are alcohol and drug dependent. BTB"s emphasis is on education, communication and support.

 

Food Pantry/Clothing Referrals - BTB provides food from thier food pantry and clothes to those in need, or a referral to obtain these items within their communities.

 

Ex-Offender Program- BTB provides services to men and women ex-offenders and assists them with their transition back to civilian life. This program is designed to help individuals through group counseling, job referrals, supportive living, and sessions to help participants to live responsibly.

 

Substance Abuse Rehabilitation and Treatment- BTB provides linkages for individuals in need of substance abuse treatment or rehabilitation. BTB networks with hospitals, and clinics to provide the best possible treatment for patient care and supportive services.

 

Prevention and Education- BTB reaches out to the commnity to eductae groups such as block clubs, churches, schools, and individuals. BTB discusses drugs, alcohol and the effects it has on our community,our homes, our families, and how to identify the warning signs of the effects of alcohol and drug use.

 

 

Peer Counseling-BTB provides peer counseling from ex-users and abusers who assist in the effort to help those in need to become drug and alcohol free. 

 

Individual and Spiritual Counseling- One on one sessions are conducted with BTB staff to discuss the more personal issues related to substance abuse. The focus of these sessions is to develope a new lifestyle which is law abiding, value oriented, and responsible.

 

Domestic Violence- BTB also assists those in need who are or have been victims of domestic violence; counseling, education, and instruction is provided. 

 

Youth Discovery Programs-BTB guides and redirect at risk youth into the process of self discovery. This program is designed to help youth understand themselves and their surroundings, and how to make good decisions. This program collaborates with other agencies such as the United Way, Stop the Violence Coalition, Mad Dads, FATHERS, 100 Mighty Men, and Neighbor Crusaders to work with youth that are involved in gangs and neighborhood violence.
